21st Century Technology

The starting of the 21st century was the starting of a new day and age. Not only did the times change, but also the technology used in the classroom. In the 21st century the world became familiar with what is called distance learning, this is where a teacher can teach a class and not have to be in the room. The students were able to learn through a casting on the television. This distance learning is a very smart idea because this way there can be less teachers needed in schools because the teacher on the casting can teach multiple students at one time. I think there should be more classes that are distant learning.

I completely disagree! Could you imagine yourself as a student sitting in a classroom all day staring at a virtual teacher and PAYING ATTENTION? No way, not me, consider me done. Without teachers in the classroom, education is dead.

I completely agree that distance learning should be used more often!! It's a great way to get a variety of people from different areas lots of information. Obviously though it would not work well with lower level students, but it is a great idea for the college level!

I wouldn't be surprised if by the time our kids have kids that this is all is avalible in lue of a classroom. That instead of going to school and having a teacher, they will be going to computer rooms or even staying at home to do work on the computer.

I had a distance learning class as a senior in high school, and I have to say that I very much prefer having a teacher in the classroom with me. One problem with the class was the fact that a few spots of the room were off camera, opening up opportunites for naps, breakfast, and other things. Some students even did these things ON camera. I personally brought a bowl of biscuits and gravy to my front row seat every day.

I think distance learning has its flaws. A teacher probably has less control over a classroom if he or she's not there. It would also be more difficult for the teacher to give individual assistance to students.

I don't really agree with this. I had a distant learning class in high school that was everyday. I did not LEARN a single thing!! It's okey every once in a while. But it get's old!

Distance learning has great advantages- many students can have the opportunity that they wouldnt have had otherwise.

yes i think that it is an good option for small schools, however, for mot students, including my self. if i was watching a teacher on a tv it would be like watching the worlds worst infomercial. i would be asleap in seconds.

I had two distance learning class Psychology and Sociology and they weren’t bad but how would you learn a different language like Spanish when you really couldn’t get one on one time with your teacher, you wouldn’t know if you were saying it right I just don’t think it would work, but at my school our "teacher" in my school didn’t even know anything about the subject she was just our baby sitter.

I think distance learning is a good option for some rural schools that cannot afford a full time teacher or for other situations like that, but I don't think I would actually like it personally. I think that I would have a hard time paying attention. I also think it would definitely demolish the teacher-student relationship and it would be difficult to understand some things.

It would be convenient and cheaper for schools to not have to pay as many teachers but there's nothing like having an actual teacher in the room who you can ask questions to and can help you individually.

I think if distance learning would be effective if it was used as an addition to the normal classroom by getting another teachers point of view every now and then, but like most people have said-I definitley could not handle it every day.

I believe distance learning is a highly effective tool at the moment for the schools that can't afford or can't get teachers to the schools for varying reasons. Other then that, the current technology doesn't seem to allow it to be fully effective. Once we reach the point where a highly realistic hologram of a teacher might be able to be present in the class room, then it will most likely be an incredible tool for use in most rooms.
